Provincial Assembly

Composition

  • Provincial Assemblies consist of members representing each region of the special metropolitan city, metropolitan cities, cities, provinces and special self-governing provinces of South Korea, 5 North Korean provinces, and overseas areas.
    • Domestic : 17 cities and provinces, 5 North Korean provinces
    • Overseas : Japan, China, Asia-Pacific, Americas, Europe·Middle East·Africa
  • The Chairperson appoints a vice chairperson to represent the Provincial Assemblies and supervise their administrative affairs.

Functions

  • Advise and propose peaceful unification policies through the provincial assemblies
  • Form and gather regional opinions on a peaceful unification
  • Deepen and broaden the regional support basis for a peaceful unification
  • Perform other essential regional activities to lay the groundwork for reunification

Projects

  • Article 2 of the Managerial Regulations of Domestic Provincial Assembly
    • Establishing and implementing a detailed plan to convene the provincial assemblies
    • Conducting surveys and research for unification policy advice and proposals
    • Promoting regional discussions on reunification and implementing programs to gather regional opinions
    • Supporting and promoting activities and projects of youth and women council members
    • Implementing unification education to foster the future generation of a united-Korea
    • Carrying out unification culture projects to lay the groundwork for unification
    • Facilitating inter-Korean exchanges and cooperation projects
    • Implementing other projects aligned with the objectives of provincial assemblies
  • Article 3 of the Managerial Regulations of Overseas Provincial Assembly
    • Establishing and implementing a detailed plan to convene the overseas provincial assemblies
    • Conducting surveys and research for unification policy advice and proposals
    • Promoting discussions on reunification across overseas Korean communities and gathering regional opinions
    • Supporting the activities of youth and women council members
    • Raising the unification awareness of overseas Korean teenagers
    • Laying the groundwork for reunification through overseas Korean communities
    • Implementing other projects aligned with the objectives of provincial assemblies

Conferences of Provincial Assembly

  • The provincial assemblies are convened once every two years, in the year when the General Assembly is not held, by each city and province of South Korea.
    • The conferences are presided over by the respective vice chairperson for each city and province with all council members in attendance according to their representation.
    • Overseas provincial assembly convene their conferences on invitation to Korea.

Municipal Chapter

Composition

  • Municipal Chapters are established for each city, county and district of South Korea and composed of council members residing in each community.
    • Domestic : 228 municipal chapters, Overseas : 45 municipal chapters (136 nations)
  • The Chairperson appoints the head of each municipal chapter to represent each body and supervise overall administrative affairs.

Functions

  • Gather community opinions on a peaceful unification
  • Promote community discussions on a peaceful unification
  • Lead local residents to reach agreements on a peaceful unification
  • Other community activities required to lay the groundwork for unification

  • Gathering community opinions on a peaceful unification
  • Sharing understanding of unification policies throughout communities
  • Promoting intra- and inter-community discussions on reunification
  • Raising unification awareness to foster the future generation for a united-Korea
  • Uniting the resolution and capabilities of local residents for reunification through unification culture projects
  • Facilitating inter-Korean interactions and cooperation
  • Contributing to community reconciliation and development
  • Implementing other projects aligned with the objectives of municipal Chapter

Major Projects of Overseas Municipal Chapter

  • Gathering opinions of overseas Korean communities on a peaceful unification
  • Sharing understanding of unification policies throughout communities and enhancing the support basis of the international community
  • Raising unification recognition of overseas Korean teenagers
  • Laying the groundwork for reunification through overseas Korean communities
  • Promoting overseas Koreans' reconciliation and amicable relations within the community and with the societies in which they live
  • Implementing other projects aligned with the objectives of municipal Chapter
The Peaceful Unification Advisory Council serves as the central mechanism of the reunification movement to promote communication with and reconciliation between the people and implements multi-faceted activities, including advising the President on unification policy, to spread understanding and unite the nation's determination and capabilities for reunification.
