Road to Youth Consensus for Unification: ‘Youth, Human Rights, Unification’
The Daejeon-si Assembly (Vice-chairperson Kim Dong-won) held the peaceful unification consensus forum “Meet North Korean Human Rights Through Culture, Road to Youth Consensus for Unification" at the Smart Pai Chai Hall of Pai Chai University on November 12. About 130 people, including councilmembers, university students, and North Korean defectors participated in the event.
The opening ceremony of the event started with opening remarks by Choi Young-sook, Chairperson of the Women's Committee, and words of encouragement by Kim Dong-won, Vice-Chairperson of the Daejeon-si Assembly. The Part Two, which was emceed by announcer Kim Hee-young, presented the story of the protagonist of the “Beyond Utopia” x-documentary on North Korean defectors and the story of human rights in a unification musical, which helped the participants understand the reality of North Korean human rights. The event also aimed to improve public awareness of North Korean human rights and create a positive consensus on the need for preparation for unification and unification based on liberal democracy.
Vice-Chairperson Kim Dong-won said, "Unification expands the universal values of freedom and human rights, and I hope that everyone here will work together with me for a peaceful and unified peninsula. Kim added that he would try to organize a unification-themed musical performance in Daejeon.
Prof. Choi Kyung-duk, head of the Psychological Counseling Department at Pai Chai University, and his students participated in the event, which raised their awareness of North Korean human rights and unification.
The event also invited North Korean defectors living in the region to participate in cultural programs on North Korean human rights and the story of North Korean defection. This contributed to communication and interaction with the North Korean defectors.
The Daejeon-si Assembly is taking the lead in promoting North Korean human rights and warmly embracing North Korean defectors who are called ‘unification that came first.’
