2024 Jeongwol Daeboreum Folk Festival Wishing for Unification

The PUAC Daejeon Seo-gu Chapter (Head Lee Chang-jong) held a jeongwol daeboreum traditional folk festival at the Dosol Multipurpose Gymnasium on February 24 with the participation of about 170 people, including PUAC council members, North Korean defectors, and local residents.

Kim Dong-won, Vice-chairperson of the Daejeon Assembly; Seo-gu Mayor Seo Cheol-mo; Chun Myung-ja, chairperson of the Seo-gu Council and Park Beom-gye, a member of the National Assembly from Seo-gu, participated in the event, in which North Korean defectors experienced traditional culture and participants wished for the harmony of the two Koreas.

The festival was preceded by an event prepared by the PUAC council members, “We Are Happy” flash mob of kangkangsoowolae, which was followed by opening ceremony. The first-part program included a relay mission time record game, and the second part included Boknori Myeongnang Sporting Event. The dansimjulnori gave a time to convey the beauty of traditional play.

Chapter Head Lee Chang-jong said, "I would like to thank all of you for taking time out of your busy schedules to attend the festival today on the occasion of the jeongwol daeboreum. I hope PUAC council members, North Korean refugees, and local residents who gathered here today will share warm feelings and memories with neighbors by playing traditional games."  

The day was full of fun with people enjoying the traditional holiday and receiving gifts and prizes prepared by the organizers.
